When making your purchasing decion on which R4 DS Flash Card you would like to buy, it's very important to note the model of the Nintendo DS that you own. Just as there are several versions of the R4 DS Flash Card, there are also several versions of the Nintendo DS / DSi as well.
If you have a regular / original Nintendo DS or the newer Nintendo DS Lite, then you're options are wide open. Wide open because you can use either the R4 Card or the R4i SDHC Card. You have such a wide choice of options because the R4 DS Flash Card was designed specifically for the Nintendo DS and DS Lite. While they don't work in the newer Nintendo DSi or DSi XL Console. Likewise, the R4i SDHC Was designed for the newer Nintendo DSi and DSi Xl Console - but - it is completely backwards compatbile and works with the original Nintendo DS and DS Lite as well.
What's our suggestion? That's a tough call, and we don't want to seem like we're trying to upsell any of our customers. The truth of the matter is that it really depends on you. If however you have the original Nintendo DS or the DS Lite, and plan to upgrade your system to the newest DSi or DSi XL model, then the choice is clear. You'll have to purchase the R4i SDHC Card. If however you are not loing to upgrade your DS console, and have the older model - then the R4 DS Flash Card will work just fine.
We're always all about future proofing our gadgets and game systems. And as such, we recommend the same to our customers. If you're absolutely certain that there will be no DSi or DSi XL in your future, you can save a few dollars by buying the regular R4 Card.
